Siemens Internship
Visual Design, UI/UX Design
Siemens Corporate Technology, Princeton, New Jersey
Role: Visual/UI Design Intern
May 2017-February 2018 (10 months)
I was a Visual/UI Design Intern at Siemens Corporate Technology from May 2017 to February, 2018. Due to the NDA and sensitive nature of the projects, I can not share the designs or specifics, but I would love to share the scope of what I was able to do and what I have learned.
My major contribution was the visual design of three industrial applications (web and tablet) with a User Experience Design team. I designed the interfaces and motion effects, delivered production-ready assets, created UI specs and visual style guide, and worked directly with front-end developers to assure the designs were implemented correctly, while maintaining the brand recognition of Siemens. I also created several graphic designs for Marketing & Communications team.
I was given the opportunity to collaborate across various teams and with UX designer, researchers, engineers, and product managers. During the internship, I also communicated my designs and solutions at all stages through presentations to multiple teams and clients.
UI/UX Projects I Worked On
Web application for military medical simulation
Tablet application for an IoT management system
Desktop configuration software for Siemens Mobility
What I've Learned
Don't be afraid to ask questions.
Capturing process is important.
The knowledge of prototyping is useful when you collaborate with developers. It makes communication and implementation much faster.
Don't get married to a certain design or treatment at an early stage. Develop many variations to compare and choose from.
You can always learn from people around you even they have different roles as you.
